Video: Seattle Police beat man's face over keys?
20 year old Isaac Ocak left his car running next to the curb at the Westwood Village mall in West Seattle, as he ran inside to return some Christmas gifts just 2 years ago. Police soon pulled up to scene noticing the idling vehicle and stopped Ocak as he walked out the store.
Soon after, according to the police report, an "aggressive and non-compliant" Ocak bit an officer's finger during a struggle, which earned him an assault charge. The officer can be seen punching Ocak in the face multiple times as the other officers hold him down. Soon after off camera, Ocak can be heard screaming for help and pleading with bystanders to stay and watch. It wasn't until recently that video of the altercation was released by attorney and known police watchdog James Egan.
The situation began to escalate after police began questioning Ocak about his keys, which they felt were suspicious. Sgt. Sean Whitcomb said this afternoon in a press conference that the officers force was justified because "having a key ring with a bunch of keys on it, in our experience, is consistent with property crimes."
After reviewing the video the prosecution dropped the assault charges over the alleged finger biting. Now Ocak is suing the city for $100,000 in damages. The police felt that the use of force was "reasonable and necessary." In the video the police can be seen telling Ocak to leave his hands on the car multiple times which Ocak seemed to have trouble doing, which could be one of the reasons for the altercation, justified or not.
